I don't know about you guys but sometimes I get in these "slumps" when I feel completely un-motivated in life. No matter what you are doing there are bound to be days when you get up just not wanting to. They happen no matter how much you love your job or the things going on in your life. Slumps are apart of life, and I face this challenge just as much as the next person. However, I have created a system for getting pumped up all over again.
Motivation is what drives you to get up in the morning. What drives you towards your goals and keeps you determined to succeed even when things get tough.
I am guessing (and secretly hoping) that I am not the only one, and because of this I have been thinking up ways to stay motivated. I have gathered my top pointers that have helped get pumped up.
1. Find inspiration in yourself: Disconnect for a little while. Read your favorite magazine or blog, see what is inspiring others. Take a moment to reflect back on your accomplishments and the positive impacts you have created in your community - or around the world.
2. Get excited: I feel like this might be obvious, but it really helps me. You might be thinking "How can I get excited about something when I am not motivated?" Well, find inspiration, wether it be something you have done in the past that makes you feel some type of way or by getting inspired by someone else's excitement. Take the inspiration and run with it. Build on it and get EXCITED! You can find this in even the smallest of things. Personal Example: Whenever I find myself not excited, I look at Paisley (my puppy) she wakes up in the best of moods on a daily basis and is always SO excited to start the day! She know's I'll be leaving her for the next 8 hours to go to work and she'll have to "fend" for herself all day. Lol puppy life is so hard. Although puppy life may be pretty laid back, if I knew my human was going to be leaving me for 8 hours I definitely would not be super excited to get up and start the day.
3.) Squash the negative thoughts: I think it is super positive to monitor your thoughts. This can sometimes be difficult as I know our minds our constantly on the go and bing from one idea/thought to the next with literally no transition time. We have to train our brains to recognize the negativity, which realistically is causing this slump. Become aware of these thoughts and when you realize the negative thought squash it with a positive reinforcement.
4.) Stick with it: Even if you are totally not feeling it, do not give up. Know you are not the only one, and know the motivation will come back. Stick to these steps for the long ride, you'll get there. Promise!
I hope these 4 pointers help with your slumps- as they have really helped get me out of even the biggest of them. I would love to hear your pointers for staying motivated, so please share!
